        fig 19.   [ Unpublished thesis. ]   [ Type locality:  Furcy, Haiti. ]

Description
Color.  Gray.
Male.  Vertex of the head with a pair of unequal, somewhat compressed, almost vertical horns, posterior margin with four equally-spaced spines. Pro- and mesonota multituberculate and granulate. Abdominal tergites II-VI granulate, VII and VIII laterally expanded distally, VII-IX tricarinate, X apically rounded-truncate. Subgenital plate tuberculate, with a strong, pyramidal median tooth, apical margin truncate. Cerci slender. Lower median carina of middle and posterior femora apically spinose, dorsal posterior carina of those femora with two small lobes apically; both dorsal carinae of the tibiae with a small basal lobe; posterior first tarsomere about as long as the next three together. Tegmina and wings absent.

Female.  Surface of the head multituberculate, vertex with a pair of unequal, almost vertical horns, posterior margin with four equally-spaced spines. Pronotum subquadrate, surface multituberculate, posterolateral angles spinose, but not dilated; mesonotum coffin-shaped, with a pair of irregular excrescences in the apical third, lateral margins of the notum only slightly dilated. Meso- and metapleurae tuberculate. Abdominal tergites obscurely tricarinate, the median carina not produced into lobes, segments broadened gradually to tergite VI, VII slightly narrower, V-VII with rounded and elevated lateral expansions, posteriorly the expansions are irregularly dentate. Subgenital plate convex, apically narrowed. Dorsal carinae of the femora apically dilated into foliaceous lobes, anterior femora a little shorter than the mesonotum; tibiae with only the dorsal carinae foliaceously lobed; first hind tarsomere subequal in length to the next two. Tegmina and wings absent.

Geographic distribution.  Central Haiti.
Type material.
Holotype:  Female. Furcy, Haiti. Jan. 8, 1943. A. Curtiss. [ ANSP ].
Allotype:  Male. Same data as type [ ANSP ].
Systematic notes.  This species is distinguished by its small size, the very large horns on the head, the lateral expansions on abdominal tergites V-VII of the female, the relatively long first tarsomere, and teh absence of tegmina and wings in the male.
Derivation of name.  Dryope, a woodpecker, is used as a noun in apposition to the generic name. (Actually, I just like the sound of the name.)
