Description
|
Body form elongate.
Head elongate, rectangular; vertex slightly swollen and tuberculate.
Antennae about as long as the anterior legs; scape depressed; pedicel subcylindrical.
Compound eyes large; ocelli absent.
Pronotum elongate, subrectangular; anterolateral defensive gland opening present.
Prosternum transverse, the base rectangular and the apex trapezoidal.
Mesothorax elongate, cylindrical.
Metathorax short, cylindrical.
Median segment elongate, 1.5-1.7 times the length of the metanotum.
Abdomen elongate and cylindrical in the male, segments II-VII subequal in length in the male,
VIII elongate, but slightly shorter, IX shorter, X transverse, apically rounded.
Vomer with a large semicircular base and a short sclerotized apical hook; subgenital plate
fornicate, medially carinate, the apex emarginate; genitalia with the ventral lobes forming a
compact basal mass, dorsal plate strongly sclerotized and dextral hook present.
Abdomen stouter in the female; tergite VII expanded laterally; segments VIII-X narrrower than the
preceding, X deeply emarginate, transverse.
Supraanal plate short, medially carinate, with the apex truncate.
Sternite VII with a praeopercular organ; subgenital plate elongate, longitudinally rugose, well
exceeding the end of the abdomen.
Cerci short, slightly curved.
Legs short and robust, often foliaceous, the posterior femora not reaching much beyond the apex
of abdominal segment III.
Anterior femora strongly curved basally, the lower median carina displaced towards the anterior one;
middle and posterior femora with the lower median carina obtusely rounded, unarmed, the lower
lateral ones denticulate.
Tibiae anareolate.
First hind tarsomere not longer than the next two together, dorsally rounded.
Female brachypterous, the male with oval tegmina and fully developed wings.

Geographic distribution. Two species are known from Central America, one of them
extending into South America; a third species is found in Dominica.
