Before looking at the histology, review Chapter 20, “The Lymphatic System,” in your textbook. A shorter introduction to its anatomy can be found in the Wikipedia lymphatic system page; also look at the pages for spleen, thymus, bone marrow, and tonsils.
Dr. Thomas Caceci has produced a very nice, albeit a trifle long, exercise on
lymphatic
system histology. It’s quite thorough, so it will take you a little while to work through it.
Note that you will examine some organs you’d probably otherwise never see, such as the bursa
of Fabricius.
[ A small
nitpick: at least once, a picture is incorrectly positioned on the page so that
it overlies text. To read the text, highlight it with your cursor, copy it, and then paste
it into a text editor. ]
A bit more of a challenge quiz this time. Answer the first 14 questions, print your name and < Immune system quiz > on a piece of paper, and then write down each of your choices for the 14 questions. Since this is a more difficult quiz, you can “open book” it, going to other web sites for help. Put your answer sheet aside, as you will be handing it in to me next week. If you’re feeling adventuresome, you can try your hand at answering questions 15-18. When done, use the < Submit Answers > feature of the quiz to see how you did. [Sorry, the answer function appears broken. --cfm ]
